The Manipur Congress criticized RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s visit to the state, stating it conveys the wrong message amid ongoing violence, displacement, social division, and a breakdown of governance. The party highlighted that “Manipur needs healing, not polarization.”

In a statement responding to Bhagwat’s three-day tour, Keisham Meghachandra Singh, president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), expressed concern that any visit prioritizing the strengthening of organizational growth over the needs of the populace sends a negative signal during a time of crisis. “Instead of addressing the humanitarian crisis and breakdown of governance, the visit appears focused primarily on strengthening RSS organizational activities,” the MPCC noted.

The Congress party asserted that the people of Manipur expect the Central Government to provide a concrete plan for peace and a return to normalcy rather than backing ideological organizations. Thousands remain displaced, and the party emphasized that rehabilitation, relief, and rebuilding efforts should take precedence.

The MPCC argued that the involvement of the RSS would not yield a solution to the ongoing crisis, which requires a politically driven resolution, accountability from administration, and urgent confidence-building measures. “Strengthening ideological organizations will not bring peace,” they stated.

Calling on the Central Government to act responsibly, the Congress demanded an immediate presentation of a clear peace roadmap, a unified command structure, plans for the safe return of displaced families, and accountability for administrative failures.

The party reaffirmed its dedication to standing by the people of Manipur, emphasizing the importance of restoring normalcy, protecting all communities, and delivering justice to victims. The MPCC stressed that political or ideological visits cannot replace effective governance.

Bhagwat arrived in Imphal on Thursday, marking his first visit since ethnic clashes began in May 2023, resulting in over 260 fatalities. During his stay, he is expected to hold closed-door meetings with RSS workers, entrepreneurs, tribal leaders from the hills, youth groups, and civil society members to review the organization’s activities in the region.

Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, who faced significant criticism concerning his administration’s handling of ethnic violence.
